UNDERSTANDING TIMING

Be anxious for nothing…Phil 4:6 NKJV

The foundation for revelation is always the peace of God. You walk with a God who rules the heavens and the earth, whose is not intimidated by anything, who is omniscient and all-powerful, and who loves you as the apple of His eye. Satan, through the world and circumstances, will always try to rush you to make judgments or decisions, especially when he thinks he controls all of the alternatives. Do not be rushed…wait until your Father speaks. His timing is always perfect and His answer always brings peace and faith to be victorious.

…for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Phil 2:13 NKJV

Day to day revelation always carries with it the unspoken understanding of ‘do it now.’ You have a thought to pray for someone. Stop what you are doing and do it now. If you ‘do it now,’ you will stay in God’s timing. One time, as I was saying grace before we ate, I had a strong urge to pray for the safety of my oldest son who was working at a local fast food restaurant. I prayed, and we ate. Later that night, just before RM and I went to sleep, I had another strong urge to pray for his safety. I did, and we went to sleep. In the wee hours that night, he burst into our room, waking us and telling us that he and a friend had just ‘rolled’ the friends car in an accident, but no one was hurt. Bless God forever, when the Spirit urges you to do something, ‘do it now!’

…and He will tell you things to come. John 16:13 NKJV

Preparation is one of the highest forms of faith. The Lord prepares you with revelation instruction so that you can be more than a conqueror in any situation. Agabus was shown by revelation that there was a famine coming so that the believers could prepare and not be shaken like the world. Every calamity carries a seed of opportunity for those who are prepared. The timing issue here would be to use ‘the calm before the storm’ to be ready for the storm.

Many times you will know things long before it is time to act on them. The reason for this is that, first of all – He loves you (and you love Him), and secondly, God is using you to set up circumstances to have the most profound effect.

One time we had gone to Rwanda, shortly after the genocide, to do a reconciliation conference between Hutu and Tutsi pastors. For three days the tension was thick in the room. God had shown me that the genocide was caused by the sin of the white missionaries. I was scheduled to be the last speaker on the last night of the conference. The Lord said, “Ok, tell them NOW what I have shown you!” I tell you, bless God forever, the glory of God fell that night in that place like few meetings I have ever had the privilege to be a part of!

Timing in the things of God is everything! I have waited months in preparing certain people for deliverance or healing, until the right time, and they got delivered or healed. With others…the timing has been there immediately, and they were helped. At Lystra, Paul saw or discerned that the crippled man had faith to be healed. The timing was NOW, and the man got his healing

(many times, what we as ministers think are ‘instant healings’ are simply us getting involved at the end of the preparation curve… ‘picking the fruit’ so to speak). You must learn to discern the time element in all the things of God to be effective.

UNDERSTANDING CALLING and SEPARATION

As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:2 NKJV

Many ministers, young ones especially, make timing mistakes because they do not understand the difference between calling and separation. When God calls you into a ministry that does not mean you are ready to be launched or separated, into ministry. There is a timing issue here. The time in between calling and separation is a preparation time for that ministry. Paul was called in Acts chapter nine. He wasn’t released or separated until Acts chapter thirteen, a period of at least five years. Now, that doesn’t mean he didn’t do anything. In fact, the Word tells us that those years were full of training, both practical and theological. Paul did not try to ‘separate’ himself. He would have been outside of God’s timing, protection and provision. Many of those ministries that you see that are broken down on the side of the road are born again ones with real callings, but they missed the timing of God by trying to promote themselves, rather than waiting on God’s promotion.

A man’s gift maketh room for him…Prov. 18:16 KJV

God knows how to train, how to promote and how to separate. I waited sixteen years until God separated RM and me unto the ministry that He had called us to. Those were good years that I enjoyed without any anxiety about God’s call upon my life. One of the hardest things in ministry is to try to help someone who is outside of God’s timing because they are trying to force something that isn’t working. Abraham tried to force God’s timing and all he produced was Ishmael. Be anxious for nothing! If you have a real gift, the room will be made for you. If not, then love God and have fun doing something else!

Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. 7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. 8 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Acts 16:6‑10 NKJV

I’m a planner. I try to see the ‘big picture,’ and I make plans and set dates according to as I see the picture unfolding. For instance, when I buy a car, I am already planning when I will sell the car, and buy a new one. This is a very high form of faith. Now, in walking with God, the key is not ‘planning,’ but rather ‘flexible planning.’ The Lord has the right to overrule or change any of the plans I have made. Just because you are trying to walk in God’s timing does not mean you do not take initiative on your own. An object in motion requires less energy to adjust or divert than to get an object to begin to move that is standing still. Wigglesworth used to say that when the Spirit wasn’t moving him, he would move the Spirit. God’s timing requires flexible planning…

You can effect God’s timing. As you consciously pray in tongues and read the Word daily, you will grow in faith. The Holy Spirit RESPONDS to faith. Your planning, and moving, and willingness to be flexible will allow God to easily move with you, directing you to be at the right place and at the right time. You will flow in God’s timing!

Remember dear ones, we must be about our Father’s business…
