THE ANOINTING – THE GOOD DOSE

And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave (Grk. DIDOMAI) them power (Grk. DUNAMIS) over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. Matt 10:1-2 NKJV

She was black; I was white. A number of years ago at the Elijahlist conference I approached Dr. Alveda King, the niece of the great civil rights champion, and asked her to impart her anointing for racial reconciliation, bringing disparate people groups together, to me. I knew it was already on my life for what had happened between the Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda many years before, and other reasons, but I wanted it to increase. She looked at me sternly and said, “Do you know that there are no races?”  “Yes ma’am,” I said, “Acts 17:26. God has made of ONE BLOOD all the nations of men!” She said, “I don’t know if you really believe that, but raise your hands!” When I raised my hands, she touched them and the spirit of God jolted us so hard we both almost went down. She said I got a good dose…

What is the anointing? How is it imparted? Why is it transferable? How is it stewarded? And, why are we told not to fellowship with darkness?

Then I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone. Num 11:17 NKJV

The spirit of Christ is permanently in your spirit from the time of your new birth. The anointing is the spirit of God, the DUNAMIS power of God, coming upon you for a season. The anointing can be become ineffective and dissipate – it’s still there (Romans 11:29) – but it can be effectively shelved; the spirit of Christ cannot be lost. 1 Corinthians 12:31 says to covet earnestly the ‘best’ gifts. Is one gift of God better than another? No. The best gift is the anointing that you need to be successful in that season. Properly stewarded, you can carry the anointing effectively for a lifetime.

How is it imparted?

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isa 57:15 NKJV

The anointing can be imparted by men and women as they are led, as we have seen, or it can come from the Lord Himself directly. But it’s always given to one with a humble spirit. You can’t teach, you can’t impart to someone who is so proud you can’t even get their attention. The Lord waits, and He will wait a lifetime if necessary, for His sons and daughters to turn their attention so fully to Him that He can impart to them. The Lord is a jealous God; He won’t share His glory with another. One time I sensed that He didn’t want my dog there when I went to meet with Him, because I gave Toby the prayer dog too much attention. Imagine that! He wants our undivided attention, and He wants open ended time with us.

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: Heb 12:14 NKJV

He GIVES the anointing to us. It’s a gift, an expression of love bestowed and imparted by grace without repentance. The anointing doesn’t come by educational accomplishment, but education can possibly help release the anointing. Amos was a herdsman, Peter was a fisherman, not great men of education but their anointings rocked the world. Anointing doesn’t come because of good character – see Balaam – but excellent character is necessary to maintain the anointing.

Why is the anointing transferable?

And God wrought special miracles (Grk. DUNAMIS) by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. Acts 19:11-12 NKJV

You must realize that the world is spiritual as much as it is physical. What science calls instinct, I call spirit. What we call a ‘gut feeling’ is an emanation of the spirit of man, which dwells in every living human being. You can observe flocks of birds and schools of fish moving as one. That is spirit! A dog travels hundreds of miles over strange terrain to find its master. How does that happen? A spiritual bond can exist between the master and their dog, akin to what we call soul ties. The spirit of life in the dog is directed back to the master by the spirit of man in them. Time and space are physical matters only; the spiritual realm operates on a different plane of physics. The kingdom of God is within you.

And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” Matt 9:20-21 NKJV

What you do out of love will carry that love in it. You impart what is in you all the time. Love energizes faith. When Paul walked in power even his clothing picked up the anointing. You see the same thing with Jesus’ prayer shawl. The woman with the issue of blood knew the power would be there. This is why we lay hands on people; for the transference of anointing and power. Jesus said that out of your inner most being will flow rivers of living water. DUNAMIS power flows out of you as you pray in the spirit, and most assuredly as you walk in the Spirit. Lake proved that this power was measurable and discernable in the physical realm. The meters he allowed himself to be attached to in scientific experiments would go off the charts when he roared in the spirit. DUNANIS power flowing out!

How is it stewarded?

Then he said to Gehazi, “Get yourself ready, and take my staff in your hand, and be on your way. If you meet anyone, do not greet him; and if anyone greets you, do not answer him; but lay my staff on the face of the child.” 2 Kings 4:29 NKJV

Hitler never had a chance. Rees Howell and his merry band of intercessors at Swansea Bible College started praying over him in 1936, decreeing by the Spirit what he would do, and what he wouldn’t do. Even though there was a war, Hitler never invaded England; he lost the war, and his life, and the nation of Israel was reborn, which is what the whole thing was about anyways. Howell had the anointing to pray in the will of God for Israel over world events, and he discerned early on that Hitler, not Stalin who was just as bad, would be the devil’s agent to stop the will of God regarding Israel. Howells and his students were on it daily over those years. Do you see how he stewarded the anointing?

But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way. 1 Cor 12:31 NKJV

Before I ever travel or minister, I seek the anointing needed in that situation where He is sending me to be effective. Understand this – the anointing and its effectiveness is not all about God, or all about you, but it is you and the Lord together – “the Lord working with them” Mk. 16:20 – working together to produce the fruit. I don’t watch TV while I’m traveling or ministering because I don’t want to mess with the anointing. It’s with clean hands and a pure heart that we ascend the hill of the Lord. Without holiness no one will see the Lord operating in great power. The sacrifices necessary to maintain the anointing are more than repaid through the triumphs of the power of God.

Why are we told not to fellowship with darkness?

And when you go into a household, greet it.  If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. Matt 10:12-14 NKJV

Normally when I enter a hotel or another place to sleep at night, I pray over the room and cover it the blood of Jesus. This is not hokey or religious! It’s very much about maintaining the anointing, and even your safety and life. Jesus said that when you step over a threshold you are supposed to discern what is in that house. In 2009 my family and I visited the home of America’s first president, George Washington. When I stepped over the threshold, the Spirit said that the Angel of Liberty had dwelt there for 250 years. I learned later that Washington had moved his family into that house in 1759. Yes, the house was worthy!

One time I slept in a bed that immediately previous, I found out later, a woman with a lesbian spirit had slept in. I didn’t cover it in the blood of Jesus because I trusted the location and the people I was staying with. Even though the sheets were clean, the bed was spiritually defiled. I won’t tell you about the dreams I had there. Recently I learned about a hotel in a major city where they hosted a convention of youth pastors. The hotel manager reported that more porn channels were accessed by the youth pastors than any other previous group. Yes, they know what you watch! I suspect the youth pastors didn’t pray over their rooms and thus they were drawn in and defiled spiritually even though everything looked good physically. Hard lesson! Hopefully, nobody died…accidents happen because of a reason!

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 2 Cor 6:14-15 NKJV

Why are we told not to fellowship with darkness? Evil can be imparted just as easily as righteousness can be if you are open to it without your armor on. This is why Israel was supposed to destroy the seven nations of Canaan because they had been defiled by the Nephilim. This is ‘live or die’ spiritual warfare. This is why ministries fail and anointings become ineffective. You trace the life of every great man or woman of God and you will see that they either maintained the anointing, or they didn’t, simple as that!

Therefore “Come out from among them and be separate,” says the Lord. “Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”  “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters,” says the Lord Almighty. 2 Cor 6:17-18 NKJV

God as ABBA Father supplies all of our needs. Could it be that if we don’t see our needs being met its because we have not come out from them and become separate, not touching what is unclean? Just saying…don’t shoot the messenger!

The reality is that we live in a very spiritual world that is lightly obscured by its physical veneer. Our God is a very real God, His Word is His supernatural communication and Jesus, and Him alone, is the Way, the Truth and the Life. The Holy Spirit is God almighty who walks with us as we fellowship with the Father ABBA and His Son YESHUA. The anointings of God are His supernatural powers committed to us carry out His will and be His ambassadors among the lost sheep of Israel and the goats of the Gentiles. May we be found faithful before Him in that day of His coming glory! Amen? Love you!
