HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT WORKS

Lightbearers MinistriesUncategorized

Dear Ones,

The study of the Holy Spirit is a lifelong learning and growth in the gift of the discerning of spirits. I tell my students that it requires at least five years of diligent study and application to get a handle on this one gift of the Spirit. There is so much to learn and to consider! There are things that we know that we have never even considered teaching. For instance, that the Greek words, and I believe the Hebrew as well, for ‘Holy Spirit’ are in the feminine gender in those languages (wrap your head around that for a minute!). In considering the Holy Spirit, you must always remember that He is God, in that unique triune relationship with the Father and Son in the Godhead. Thus, the study of the Holy Spirit becomes an act of worship. So, praise while you read!

This article comes from the teacher development course that is perhaps the signature contribution, up to this point, to the body of Christ by Lightbearers Ministries. It’s six months long. The 24th English group and 3rd French group will start July 1st.  If you are a fivefold minister, and want to become an effective teacher of the gifts of the Spirit, one who imparts knowledge and power, we would love to have you in our course. It’s free! We believe it is the greatest course of its kind in the world today for one reason only – the Holy Spirit Himself teaches it. If you want to help everyone get filled with the Spirit and walk on a greater level with the Lord, get in the course.

For registration, contact Rev. Sandra Hill at interns@lightbearers-ministries.com. Love you!

LESSON SEVEN: VERBS THAT DESCRIBE THE WORKING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

by Kevin Porter

The purpose of this study is to give you a greater understanding of the scope of the operation of the Holy Spirit. It is not necessarily for you to teach this material. Your study will give you greater background and understanding of the Spirit’s moving. You must learn to recognize Him if you are to follow Him.

With each word, you have the Greek word from which it is translated, then all of the references to that Greek word in the Greek New Testament. Then you have the specific verse showing the working of the Holy Spirit, and my brief commentary. You should look up each of the references for each word to get an understanding of the scope of how that word is used. Make your own notes as you work through them.

1). Come – EPIERCHOMAI – Luke 1:35, Luke 11:22, Luke 21:26, Luke 21:35, Acts 1:8, Acts 8:24, Acts 13:40, Acts 14:19, Eph 2:7, James 5:1.

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 NIV

You have to learn to sense when the Spirit is coming upon you. Ask Him to help you become sensitive to your spirit. The more you speak in tongues, the more sensitive you will become.

2). Overshadow – EPISKIAZO – Matt 17:5, Mark 9:7, Luke 1:35, Luke 9:34, Acts 5:15.

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Luke 1:35 NIV

This is a deep one. Especially check out the usage in Acts 5:15. This is the cloud, the overshadowing of the Spirit, that was on Mary, and also on Peter in Acts. The Spirit comes as a cloud.

3). Led up – ANAGO – Matt 4:1, Luke 2:22, Luke 4:5, Luke 8:22, Luke 22:66, Acts 7:41, Acts :39, Acts 12:4, Acts 13:13, Acts 16:11, Acts 16:34, Acts 18:21, Acts 20:3, Acts 20:13, Acts 21:1, Acts 21:2, Acts 27:2, Acts 27:4, Acts 27:12, Acts 27:21, Acts 28:10, Acts 28:11, Rom 10:7, Heb 13:20.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. Matt 4:1NIV

Used primarily as a nautical term when you look at all the references. The analogy between the moving of the Spirit and the sailing of a boat is rich with understanding. Meditate on it.

4). Drive – EKBALLO – Matt 7:4, Matt 7:5, Matt 7:5, Matt 7:22, Matt 8:12, Matt 8:16, Matt :31, Matt 9:25, Matt 9:33, Matt 9:34, Matt 9:38, Matt 10:1, Matt 10:8, Matt 12:20, Matt 12:24, Matt 2:26, Matt 12:27, Matt 12:27, Matt 12:28, Matt 12:35, Matt 12:35, Matt 13:52, Matt 15:17, Matt 17:19, Matt 21:12, Matt 21:39, Matt 22:13, Matt 22:13, Matt 22:13, Matt 25:30, Mark 1:12, Mark :34, Mark 1:39, Mark 1:43, Mark 3:15, Mark 3:22, Mark 3:23, Mark 5:40, Mark 6:13, Mark 7:26, Mark 9:18, Mark 9:28, Mark 9:38, And Mark 9:47, Mark 11:15, Mark 12:8, Mark 16:9, Mark 6:17, Luke 4:29, Luke 6:22, Luke 6:42, Luke 6:42, Luke 6:42, Luke 8:54, Luke 8:54, Luke 9:40, Luke 9:49, Luke 10:2, Luke 10:35, Luke 11:14, Luke 11:15, Luke 11:18, Luke 11:19, Luke 1:19, Luke 11:20, And Luke 13:28, Luke 13:32, Luke 19:45, Luke 20:12, Luke 20:15, John 2:15, John :37, John 9:34, John 9:35, John 10:4, John 12:31, Acts 7:58, Acts 9:40, Acts 13:50, Acts 16:37, Acts 7:38, Gal 4:30, James 2:25, 3 John 10, Rev 11:2.

12 And immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. Mark 1:12 NKJV

A very forceful leading. Consider that the same word is used of the power of the Holy Spirit in casting out of demons. EKBALLO literally means to throw out.

5). Compelled – SUNECHO – Matt 4:24, Luke 4:38, Luke 8:37, Luke 8:45, Luke 12:50, Luke 9:43, Luke 22:63, Acts 7:57, Acts 18:5, Acts 28:8, 2Cor 5:14, Phil 1:23.

When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. Acts 18:5 NKJV

Another very strong leading, it literally means to be arrested and held.

6). Bound – DEO – Matt 12:29, Matt 13:30, Matt 14:3, Matt 16:19, Matt 16:19, Matt18:18, Matt 8:18, Matt 18:33, Matt 21:2, Matt 22:13, Matt 27:2, Mark 3:27, Mark 5:3,Mark 5:4, Mark 6:17, Mark 11:2, Mark 11:4, Mark 15:1, Mark 15:7, Luke 11:42, Luke13:16, and Luke 13:16, Luke 9:30, John 4:4, John 11:44, John 18:12, John 18:24, John 19:40, Acts 9:2, Acts 9:14, Acts 9:21, Acts 10:11, Acts 12:6, Acts 20:22, Acts 21:11, Acts 21:11, Acts 21:13, Acts 21:33, Acts 22:5, Acts 22:29, Acts 24:27, Rom 7:2, 1Cor 7:27, 1Cor7:39, Col 4:3, 2Tim 2:9, Rev 9:14, Rev 20:2.

And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, Acts 20:22 NKJV

He was not free to go to Jerusalem. The Spirit would not release him to go. He went anyway, and almost lost his life. God tries to protect us all the time, but never oversteps our freedom of will.

7). Rest – EPISKENOO – 2 Cor 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Cor 12:9 NIV

Literally means to build a tent over. Think about it.

8). Moved – PHERO – Matt 14:11, Matt 14:11, Matt 14:18, Matt 17:17, Mark 1:32, Mark 2:3, Mark 4:8, Mark 6:27, Mark 6:28, Mark 7:32, Mark 8:22, Mark 9:17, Mark 9:19, Mark 9:20, Mark 12:15, Mark 12:16, Mark 15:22, Luke 5:18, Luke 15:23, Luke 23:26, And Luke 24:1, John 1:8, John 2:8, John 4:33, John 12:24, John 15:2, John 15:2, John 15:2, John 15:4, John 15:5, John 5:8, John 15:16, John 18:29, John 19:39, John 20:27, John 20:27, John 21:10, John 21:18, Acts 2:2, Acts 4:34, Acts 4:37, Acts 5:2, Acts 5:16, and Acts 12:10, Acts 14:13, Acts 25:7, Acts 27:15, Acts 7:17, Rom 9:22, 2 Tim 4:13, Heb 1:3, Heb 6:1, Heb 9:16, Heb 12:20, Heb 13:13, 1 Peter 1:13, 2 Peter 1:17, 2 Peter 1:18, 2 Peter 1:21, 2 Peter 1:21, 2 Peter 2:11, 2 John 10, Rev 21:24, Rev 21:26.

21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21 NKJV

Literally means to be borne or carried. The Spirit carries you along, like the current in a river. You’ll experience this when you are writing, teaching or preaching. It’s a flow!

9). Revealed – CHREMATIZO – Matt 2:12, Matt 2:22, Luke 2:26, Acts 10:22, Acts 11:26, Rom 7:3, Heb 8:5, Heb 11:7, Heb 12:25.

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. Luke 2:26 NIV

Revealed by a spoken word, like prophecy. The Lord had spoken a word to him which was how it was revealed.

10). Works – ENERGEO – Matt 14:2, Mark 6:14, Rom 7:5, 1Cor 12:6, 1Cor 12:11, 2Cor1:6, 2Cor 4:12, Gal 2:8, Gal 2:8, Gal 3:5, Gal 5:6, Eph 1:11, Eph 1:20, Eph 2:2, Eph 3:20, Phil 2:13, Phil 2:13, Col 1:29, 1Thess 2:13, 2Thess 2:7, James 5:16.

13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Phil 2:13 NIV

God energizes His power in you as the Spirit comes upon you. These are some of the great verses in the New Testament regarding the Holy Spirit and His gifts.

11). Witness – SUMMARTUREO – Rom 2:15, Rom 8:16, Rom 9:1, Rom 9:1, Rev 22:18.

16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Rom 8:16 NIV

The witness of the Spirit in you is perhaps the primary way God gives revelation.

12). Sent – EKPEMPO – Acts 13:4, 17:10.

4 The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus. Acts 13:4 NIV

Do not go unless He sends you.

Remember dear ones, we must be about our Father’s business…
