HEARING GOD’S VOICE

But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you that it may be well with you.’ Jer 7:23 NKJV

Throughout all the periods of God’s dealings with men, the two great requirements of God have been that His people hear His voice, and obey what they hear. This means that it must be possible for every believer to hear from God every day. We must hear before we can obey. Hearing God is critical in every aspect of life, but especially when it comes enjoying and maintaining health.

…and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” Ex 15:26 NKJV

To ‘diligently heed’ in Hebrew literally means to ‘hearingly hear.’ In other words, to hear precisely with rapt attention, to catch and weigh every word that is spoken. Jesus said that man shall live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. That word ‘word’ means the precise word that He speaks to you personally. It’s more than just reading your Bible, as important as that discipline is. It is the word that the Spirit empowers and makes personal to you as He moves upon your heart.

That spoken, empowered word of God is more powerful than anything else in the universe. When you hear it, believe it and obey it, nothing is impossible unto you. Nothing…no problem, or any other created thing…can resist that word. You hear God through the five senses of your inner man, your spirit man, which is also called your heart.

The Lord came to Solomon one night and gave him an extraordinary opportunity. “Ask what I shall give you,” He said. Think of what Solomon could have asked for! But Solomon was smart enough not to waste this great opportunity on some mere material thing. He asked for that thing that every one of us needs most, a hearing heart.

Therefore give to Your servant an understanding (Hebrew: SHAMA – hearing) heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great person of Yours?” 1 Kings 3:9 NKJV

A hearing heart…a heart that hears God. Have you asked God for a ‘hearing heart’?

The Word speaks about hearts becoming calloused or hardened. Callouses form from wear or abuse. Some of us get so worn down that we just stop caring anymore. We see so much dirt, so much grief, that we become insensitive to it so that we can survive. Our spirits become so overwhelmed and despondent that we can’t hear that sweet, soft Voice anymore. When that happens, it is time for emergency ‘heart’ surgery, because you cannot live without hearing every word that comes from God.

Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted, bless God forever! When we come to Him humbly, confessing all that is outside of His will, laying our hearts bare, He is able to take our crushed, bruised, calloused, broken hearts, and make them new ‘hearing hearts.’ Hearing hearts can hear the voice of God!

Remember dear ones; we must be about our Father’s business…
