WEAPONS AND TACTICS 3: WINNING OUR WARFARE

“You are going to die!” the doctor said. Then, on another occasion, a nurse told him the same thing. The young man was on a ventilator in a California hospital in December of ’21. Our dear brother who heads a construction company said one of his chief guys was in the hospital and needed prayer. We alerted our prayer team and began to pray. For three months the man’s life hung in the balances. We checked on him constantly. One of our intercessors discerned the prognosis of death against him, which was later confirmed by Javier and his family. The Lord told her, “Both a doctor and a nurse have told Javier that he will die. What do you say?” “No! No!! No!!!” the intercessor cried. Today the man is healthy and whole, praising God and thankful for the prayer, back with his family and back at work, bless God forever.

7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear (Grk. DEILIA), but of power (Grk. DUNAMIS) and of love (Grk. AGAPE) and of a sound mind (Grk. SOPHRONISMOS). 2 Tim 1:7 NKJV

Before we get into the power principles of winning our warfare, we must pull down (2Cor. 10:3,4) the worst stronghold of all, fear. Literally, the first verse I ever heard preached was 2 Timothy 1:7. It has become a major theme of my life. The word for fear here is not the word PHOBOS or PHOBEO, the common words for fear, but DEILIA, the word for timidity or cowardice. DEILIA is only used one time, here, in the GNT, making it singularly significant. Why would DEILIA be used in a book written to a man of God, a spiritual son of Paul’s?

But you are worth ten thousand of us now. For you are now more help to us in the city.” Then the king said to them, “Whatever seems best to you I will do.” 2 Sam 18:3-4 NKJV

I believe the attack against men of God is to fill them with vanity and pride. People tell you that you are so special, so important, but in reality you are the weakest link in the chain, so you act cowardly in self-preservation rather than leading from the front. In a crisis, there is nothing more devastating than a leader who doesn’t lead. Vanity and cowardice are evil twin brothers and must be resisted at all costs. So, how do we resist and pull down the stronghold of fear, PHOBOS, and specifically, cowardice or timidity, DEILIA?

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:7-8 NKJV

True courage comes from righteousness. As men and women of God we must throw off the mantles of men. Paul had no problem with DEILIA. The things of men that were gain to him – reputation, influence, position, recognition – he counted loss for the fullness of Christ (Phil. 3:4-9). Moses was the meekest man of his time. He had thrown off the wealth and power of Egypt to accept a shepherd’s rod in the wilderness before God raised him up. Through his meekness he became a strong and fearless leader. Meekness and fearlessness walk hand in hand because of righteousness. Are you seeing how to pull down the stronghold of fear? When you have nothing to lose because you have released it all, and Heaven awaits, then the devil has no hand or foothold in your life.

The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. Prov 28:1 NKJV

Here is one of the most significant and powerful spiritual weapons I have ever seen. Lightbearers prayer team has existed for at least twenty five years, and they get the credit, this side of Heaven, for all we have been able to do. God surrounds me with people who are better than me. As we study one of the great prayer teams of all time, think about how you can apply this weapon in your business, your ministry, your family and your other endeavors for God.

WEAPON: THE PRAYER TEAM

 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.  For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matt 18:19-20 NKJV

In the spring of 1936, the Lord was raising up a team of intercessors under the leadership of Rees Howells at the Bible College at Swansea, Wales. On March 29^th, a special visitation of the Holy Spirit began. Dr. Kingsley C. Priddy wrote about it. Here is what he said, in part:

“We felt the Holy Spirit had been a real person to us before; as far as we knew we had received Him; and some of us had known much of His operations in and through our lives. But now the revelation of His person was so tremendous that all our previous experience seemed as nothing…In the light of His purity, it was not so much sin we saw as self. We saw pride and self-motives underlying everything we had ever done. Lust and self-pity were discovered in places we had never suspected them. And we had to confess that we knew nothing of the Holy Spirit as an indwelling person. That our bodies were meant to be temples of the Holy Spirit we knew, but when He pressed the question, “Who is living in your body?” we could not say that He was. We would have done so once, but now we had seen Him.”

I often emphasize and teach thoroughly in our Holy Spirit Seminar that you must get to the HOLY side of the Holy Spirit before you really get to the SPIRIT side. At each level of spiritual growth the great reward is God Himself, a fuller and more complete revelation of Himself. In that revelation The Holy Spirit comes to reveal and confront that which is in us that is not of Him. So…who is living in your body?

“One by one He met us; one by one we broke in tears and contrition before Him. From one after another rose the cry, as it did from Isaiah when he too ‘saw the Lord’: “Woe is me! For I am lost…unclean” Isa 6:5. One by one our wills were broken; we yielded on His own unconditional terms. One by one there came the glorious realization: He had entered and the wonder of our privilege just overwhelmed us.”

This prayer team, of about 120, would meet almost nightly starting in March of 1936, consisting of students, faculty and workers and staff and would continue through the end of World War Two. God was calling out a team with a special task, to bless and save the world. They would give their lives over “to fight the battles of the Kingdom, as really as if called to fight on the Western Front.”(Rees Howells, Intercessor)

Norman C Grubb, writing in the book, REES HOWELLS INTERCESSOR, says, “The next burden which came on Mr. Howells was for the Jews. As we follow him and the college through their months and years of intercession for Israel, it is remarkable now to see the fulfillment of the first stage of their prayer in the actual return of the Jews and the establishment of the state of Israel. How little there seemed any outward sign that this would come to pass when the burden first came on God’s servant! It reminds us that no great event in history, even though prophesied beforehand in the Scriptures, comes to pass unless God finds His human channels of faith and obedience. Prophesies must be believed into manifestation, as well as foretold.”

Mr. Howells saw that the devil would use Mr. Hitler to oppose His plan to restore the nation of Israel. Mr. Hitler and his armies would have to be put in God’s crosshairs…

THE TACTIC: CONTINUAL PRAYER AND CONTINUAL REVELATION FOCUS

September 1, 1939 – the German armies invade Poland, and the war has begun. By May of 1940, most of Europe has fallen to the Nazis, and the British army is trapped at Dunkirk, France. The darkest hour has fallen upon the Allies. The team under Howells is wrapped in continual prayer and intercession. The miracle occurs with the rescue at Dunkirk of over three hundred thousand British troops. Howells decrees by revelation, “The enemy will not Invade Christian England!”

11/7/40 – How many people have been moved by the affliction of these air raids? If you can believe that you have been delivered from hell, why can’t you believe that you have been delivered from air raids?

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19 NKJV

11/8/40 – I could now put it into print that no devil can touch anyone here. There is no need to pray anymore. When you believe, you finish with prayer. We have never been in such victory before, carrying on exactly as if there was no war. How could we get victory for the world unless we first believed it for ourselves? You can’t trust in anything except believing prayer. How the Holy Spirit came down this morning and told us of His victory!

“According to your faith let it be to you.” Matt 9:29 NKJV

11/9/40 – The Holy Spirit has found faith equal to what He wants to do.

11/11/40 – with the Battle of Britain over London and the south of England at its fiercest. There have been so many places in London bombed that even Buckingham Palace has been touched. I was burdened to pray for the King and Queen, and I believe our prayer will be answered. I am just watching how God will take hold of the enemy.

11/12/40 – We prayed last night that London would be defended, and the enemy would not break through, and God answered prayer. Unless God can get hold of this devil and bind him, no one is safe. If we have protection for our properties, why not get protection for the country? What wonderful days these are!

NOTE THE JOY IN THE MIDST OF GREAT CRISIS.

11/14/40 – Because we have believed, God has made known to us what is to come to pass. Every creature will hear the Gospel, Palestine will be regained by the Jews, and the Savior is to return.

11/15/40 – Norman C. Grubb writes: “Mr Churchill in his War Memoirs, gives September 15^th as the culminating date of the battle of the Air. He tells how he visited the Operations Room of the RAF and watched as the enemy squadrons poured over and his own countrymen went up to meet them. Churchill writes:

“I now asked, What other reserves have we?” “There are none,” Air-Vice Marshall Parks replied.

Another five minutes passed…It appeared that the enemy were going home! The shifting of the discs on the table below showed a continuous eastward movement of German bombers and fighters. No new attack appeared. In ten minutes, the action was ended.”

Grubb writes: There seemed no reason why the Luftwaffe should have turned for home just at the moment when victory was in their grasp, but we know why!

Mr. Howells and his prayer team got revelation to pray that the Germans would do INSANE things militarily to dissipate their strength, like attack north Africa, and the greatest blunder of all, attacking Russia. Three million German soldiers were lost in the snows around Moscow and Stalingrad. Mr. Howells team knew by revelation before it was ever announced publicly and prayed in the victories. D-Day, 6 June 1944, the team knew the battle was won before it ever happened and prayed it in. Continuous prayer and continuous revelation guidance was bringing victory for the whole world!

Dear one, you can have the greatest weapons and most perfect tactics but if you don’t do something with them, evil will prevail. Prophecies and biblical truths must be believed in order to be manifested. Howells and his team struggled in prayer until they finally BELIEVED the promise or truth. Are you willing to fight through until your faith rises up and appropriates the gift of God? Are you willing to organize and lead others to the same godly purpose? Evil triumphs when good men and women do nothing. May it be said of us that we rose up in the time of the worlds great need for the Gospel and met the challenge through prayer, faith and action!
