It was a big, wide margin Bible, and it lay open on the desk of Dwight L. Moody, in his home in Northampton, Massachusetts. Moody was perhaps the greatest American evangelist of the 19th century, one who spoke in tongues in an age when few did and preached to millions. The Bible’s owner had written in it with lined notes in pencil in the wide margins. The notes were still legible, having been written in a beautiful cursive script that was as remarkable for its clarity as it was for its content.

Do you treasure God’s Word? I have every bible I have ever owned, except the one that was stolen in Zimbabwe. My first bible was my constant companion after I got saved. I even dried it out and kept it after it was floating in the ocean after one day at the beach. It was planted in the foundation of our house, in a box from Africa, with a picture of people receiving the Holy Spirit, and a knitted cross. So, I can say, my house is built on the Word of God.
The Word of God is immensely practical. The Word gives life, light, and understanding to every life situation. The Word of God leads us to prosperity!

In my observation, all the great men and women of God down through the ages have had two things in common – they loved God and His Word, and they prayed intensely. Otherwise, they might be as different as snowflakes!
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. Psalms 119:9 NKJV
It was early morning, and the giant tractor began to plow into the virgin half acre of ground that we had just purchased. Thorns, thistles, briers even small trees fell before its blade as it cleared the ground where our house would be built. By evening, the ground was prepared for construction.
The Word of God is like that tractor. It plows up unbelief, and deeply rooted fears, in the mind and the heart of the believer. It crushes the power of sin and addiction and prepares the ground for a home for the King. It is quite reasonable to realize that 95% or more of the mental and emotional turmoil we suffer could be completely alleviated by the deep, rich presence of the Word of God. What do you feed your soul?

I can sit with any man, anywhere, for ten minutes and tell you why his life is the way it is. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love death, or love life, will eat the fruit thereof. What we have in our hearts, which we will speak, is what we have in our lives. Don’t you want the blessings of God? Then you must fill your heart with them from the Word of God.
I once met with a group of bishops. They were sour, long-faced and negative in their conversations. I asked them how many of them read five chapters of the Word of God daily. Not one hand went up! I laid into them and told them exactly what I thought God wanted them to hear. These were leaders of God’s people, but they had no answers, no joy, no fruit because they did not love the Word of God!
Dear ones, love is a choice, a decision. You and I must choose to love His Word and follow it wholeheartedly. Remember that Jesus equated love for Him by our relationship to His Word. Will you join me in declaring, I love God’s Word!
